A new player is taking on the challenges of Nigeria’s e-commerce logistics sector with an innovative approach. MAX, short for Metro Africa Xpress, is a crowd-sourced logistics startup currently operating in Lagos. The company leverages technology to connect independent taxi operators and motorcycle riders, creating a network of delivery agents designed to streamline last-mile delivery. What sets MAX apart is its focus on utilizing existing resources—namely “Okada” riders and taxi drivers—and positioning itself as a socially driven enterprise. “MAX aims to increase income opportunities for individuals with limited education or formal employment options in Nigeria,” the company states.
The model draws comparisons to Uber, as it uses technology to match delivery agents with requests, while also emphasizing a rigorous training process for its independent operators. Known as “MAX Champions,” delivery agents undergo a comprehensive screening and training program before becoming part of the professionalized dispatch network.
“Our mission is to build and operate a crowdsourced last-mile delivery platform for Africa, starting from Nigeria,” the company explains, hinting at plans for future expansion across the continent. Founded by Chinedu Azodoh and Adetayo Bamiduro, both MIT alumni with extensive experience in logistics, e-commerce, and technology, MAX is equipped with strong leadership to tackle the complexities of the industry.
The company offers an efficient three-step pick-up and delivery process, with options for instant, same-day, and next-day deliveries within Lagos. With its innovative model and ambitious goals, MAX is positioning itself as a transformative force in Africa’s logistics landscape.
