Mstudio: Bridging the Gap in Francophone Africa’s Tech Ecosystem

While the African tech landscape has witnessed impressive growth, particularly in English-speaking countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, the Francophone region has lagged behind in terms of venture capital investment and startup development.

Mstudio, a venture studio based in Abidjan, aims to address this disparity by replicating successful business models from other regions, particularly Latin America and Southeast Asia, and adapting them to the unique needs of the Francophone African market.

“We’re not reinventing the wheel,” explains Leslie Ossete, Co-founder of Mstudio. “We focus on proven business models that have demonstrated success in other emerging markets.”

This approach, combined with a focus on supporting entrepreneurs within the informal sector, particularly women and youth, sets Mstudio apart. Recognizing the significant economic contribution of the informal sector, Mstudio aims to leverage technology to empower informal workers and improve their livelihoods.

Mstudio’s unique approach extends beyond traditional venture capital funding. The studio provides comprehensive support to its portfolio companies, including mentorship, technical assistance, and access to valuable networks.

“We understand that startups require more than just capital,” says Ossete. “They need guidance, support, and access to the right resources to navigate the challenges of the African market.”

Mstudio’s focus on replicating proven business models, combined with its emphasis on supporting entrepreneurs within the informal sector, positions it as a key player in driving innovation and economic growth across the Francophone African region.
