Risevest Founder Found Guilty of Misconduct, Remains on Board

Following an independent investigation, Risevest founder, Eke Urum, has been found guilty of sexual misconduct and abuse of power. The investigation, initiated in August 2022 following allegations against Urum, found no evidence of sexual assault but revealed a pattern of inappropriate behavior, including abuse of power, workplace bullying, and intimidation.

While Urum maintains that the allegations of sexual impropriety were based on subjective interpretations, he has acknowledged the findings of the investigation and accepted responsibility for his actions.

As a result of the investigation, Urum will not be reinstated as CEO. Tony Odiba, who has been serving as interim CEO, will continue in that role. A new board of directors has been formed, comprising Urum, Odiba, one independent director, and two investor representatives.

Urum expressed regret for his actions and emphasized his commitment to personal growth and improvement. He stated, “As a leader, I have grown a lot over the years and still have a lot of growing to do.”

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering a safe and respectful workplace environment. It also highlights the need for companies to have robust internal mechanisms for addressing and investigating allegations of misconduct.
