Comoros Receives $10.5 Million from AfDB to Boost Digital Infrastructure

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a significant €9.51 million ($10.5 million) loan to the Comoros Islands to support the development of critical digital infrastructure. This investment will fund the construction and operation of a new state-of-the-art data center, upgrade an existing facility, and establish an incubator to foster digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

This initiative, part of a broader effort to modernize the Comorian economy, aims to enhance government services, improve citizen access to information, and drive digital transformation across the nation. The project will involve the establishment of a robust digital administration platform, the development of user-friendly e-services, and the creation of a secure and efficient digital public payment system. Furthermore, the project will prioritize data security and privacy by funding the establishment of a National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data and Access to Information.

The AfDB’s investment aligns with the growing demand for digital infrastructure across Africa. The data center market in East Africa is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing internet penetration and the rise of digital services. This investment in Comoros will not only enhance the country’s digital capabilities but also contribute to the overall development of the region’s digital economy.

This project represents a significant step forward in Comoros’ digital transformation journey. By investing in modern data centers and supporting the development of a robust digital ecosystem, the government aims to improve service delivery, enhance citizen engagement, and unlock new opportunities for economic growth and social development.
