Leadership Change at Africa Prudential: Nwosu Appointed New CEO as Idiong Resigns

Africa Prudential Plc, a prominent player in Nigeria’s capital market, has announced a major leadership change, effective February 28, 2024Obong Idiong, who has served as the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, will be stepping down to pursue new opportunities. His resignation marks the end of an impactful tenure during which he contributed significantly to the company’s growth. The board expressed its appreciation for his leadership and wished him well in his future endeavors.

To fill the leadership vacuum, Africa Prudential has appointed Catherine Uzoamaka Nwosu as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Her appointment is set to take effect on March 1, 2024, pending approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This decision reflects the company’s confidence in Nwosu’s ability to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Catherine Uzoamaka Nwosu brings a wealth of experience to the role, having had a long and distinguished career in the capital market sector. Prior to her appointment, she held significant positions, including a term as the 2nd Vice President of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR). Nwosu has also built an impressive career at BUA Group, where she served as the Head of Stakeholder Engagement. Her association with Africa Prudential dates back to the company’s founding in 2006, where she played a pivotal role in its early years. She held various leadership positions at the company, including that of Chief Operating Officer (COO) from 2010 until 2022.

Nwosu’s qualifications and professional background further enhance her credentials for the CEO role. She is an alumna of the Senior Management Program at the Lagos Business School and holds an MBA. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars and an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. Her academic foundation in Business Administration equips her with the expertise needed to navigate Africa Prudential’s future challenges and opportunities.

In making the announcement, the board expressed full confidence in Nwosu’s leadership, stating that she possesses the strategic vision and operational experience necessary to drive the company forward. They emphasized that her appointment is in line with Africa Prudential’s commitment to maintaining high standards of excellence and fostering long-term growth for the organization.
