EMOSIM, a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) backed by EMO MEDIA Ltd, has announced a strategic partnership with TATA Communications Services to deliver cutting-edge telecommunications and connectivity services in Nigeria.
As part of its market entry, EMOSIM is set to launch Nigeria’s first travel eSIM in the second quarter of 2025, specifically designed for outbound travelers. Unlike traditional roaming, the travel eSIM will allow users to stay connected without incurring high roaming charges, offering affordable, competitively priced data bundles. The coverage will cover key travel destinations, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
By leveraging TATA Communications’ advanced MVNO technology, EMOSIM aims to provide best-in-class network reliability and seamless user experience. This partnership aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to drive digital inclusion and innovation in telecommunications.
TATA Communications’ MVNO Platform features cloud-based IT infrastructure for enhanced scalability, digital onboarding & eKYC for seamless customer registration, real-time customer engagement to optimize user experience as well as interoperability for seamless connectivity across networks.
“In alignment with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the government’s digital transformation agenda, MVNOs play a critical role in expanding access to technology and driving economic growth. At EMO Group, we are committed to supporting this vision,” said Jimmy Eboma, Chairman of EMO Group.
Highlighting the market potential, Karn Gulati, CEO of EMOSIM, emphasized the transformative role of MVNOs in addressing underserved segments. “The introduction of MVNO licenses is a strategic move to expand telecom accessibility and ensure that the smartphone revolution leaves no Nigerian behind. With TATA Communications as our strategic partner, we are positioned to accelerate digital adoption in Nigeria. The travel segment alone presents immense opportunities, with over 1.2 million Nigerians traveling abroad annually, making the travel eSIM a high-demand product.”
Echoing this sentiment, Aditya Raj Khosla, CCO of EMOSIM, highlighted the growing demand for seamless global connectivity. “EMOSIM’s borderless mobile experience is designed to empower Nigeria’s frequent travelers, digital entrepreneurs, and remote workers, making international connectivity more accessible than ever before.”
The adoption of eSIM technology is rapidly growing in global telecommunications. Originally developed in 2014, the eSIM functions as a digital replacement for traditional SIM cards, eliminating the need for physical SIM trays and facilitating Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity.
According to GSMA, by 2028, at least half of all smartphone connections worldwide will be eSIM-enabled, driven by its interoperability and ease of reprogramming. Unlike conventional SIM cards, eSIMs allow users to switch networks without needing to obtain a new physical SIM. Jimmy Eboma (Chairman, EMO Group) is a seasoned expert in telecom, banking, and FMCG digital solutions whose leadership aligns with Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Karn Gulati (CEO, EMOSIM) with a background in strategy and telecom transformation, including previous roles at 9Mobile and Ernst & Young is steering EMOSIM’s eSIM revolution. Aditya Raj Khosla (CCO/COO, EMOSIM) having 14 years of experience in telecom product innovation, Khosla is focused on high-revenue, customer-centric solutions tailored for Nigeria’s tech-savvy travelers and youth. Olatunji Ayo (CFO, EMOSIM), a finance and media professional with 18 years of experience also ensures that EMOSIM’s financial and regulatory framework meets global standards.
As Nigeria embraces digital transformation, EMOSIM’s partnership with TATA Communications represents a pivotal step in advancing mobile connectivity, making travel more convenient, cost-effective, and seamless for Nigerians worldwide.
