AgDevCo, a leading investor in African agriculture, has announced the launch of AgDevCo Ventures, a new investment initiative dedicated to supporting early-stage agribusinesses across the continent. This exciting venture, backed by a $32 million investment from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), aims to catalyze growth within the African agricultural sector.
AgDevCo Ventures will focus on providing crucial financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the “missing middle” – a critical segment often overlooked by traditional investors. By providing flexible funding solutions ranging from $1 million to $3 million, AgDevCo Ventures will empower these businesses to scale their operations, create jobs, and enhance food security across Africa.
This strategic move marks a significant return to its roots for AgDevCo, which previously invested heavily in early-stage ventures. Building upon its successful track record and leveraging its deep understanding of the African agricultural landscape, AgDevCo Ventures is poised to play a pivotal role in fostering the growth of a vibrant and sustainable agribusiness sector across the continent.
