CatalyzU and Future Africa Introduce Fellowship to Support African Founders

CatalyzU (previously known as Young African Catalysts), a tech-driven platform utilizing data to assess, train, and assist African talent in securing employment, has partnered with Future Africa, a prominent pan-African venture capital firm, to launch the “How to Startup” Fellowship. This initiative follows the success of their Venture Capital Fellowships.

As shared in a press release, the seven-week online programme is designed to equip African entrepreneurs with the essential knowledge and skills needed to build successful businesses both locally and globally. Set to begin on May 23, 2024, the fellowship requires a tuition fee of $800, with the application deadline on May 14, 2024.

This programme targets startup founders, potential founders, startup employees, and corporate innovators aiming to scale and launch groundbreaking ideas across Africa. Developed by a team of seasoned African entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, the “How to Startup” Fellowship offers a unique, immersive learning experience, moving beyond traditional entrepreneurship education.

Participants will engage directly with industry experts and gain exposure to practical insights through live learning sessions and real-world case studies. The curriculum will cover crucial aspects of the startup journey, including idea validation, creating a Minimum Viable Product, understanding legal and financial considerations, and effectively securing funding.

Notable instructors include Iyinoluwa E. Aboyeji, Co-founder of Andela, Flutterwave, and Future Africa, and Mia Koschitzky-Kimani, Managing Partner at Future Africa and Co-founder of DukaConnect.

Upon completing the fellowship, graduates will join the Young African Catalyst network, a community of over 200 founders and venture capitalists across Africa. This network offers ongoing support and partnership opportunities.

Karl Nchite, Co-founder and CEO of CatalyzU, expressed enthusiasm for the fellowship, emphasizing its role in empowering the next generation of African startups. He highlighted Africa’s rapidly growing entrepreneurial ecosystem and the value of providing hands-on learning experiences and access to an extensive network of industry leaders.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until spots are filled. In July 2023, CatalyzU, along with its rebrand, joined Techstars Toronto, alongside 23 other startups from Canada and emerging markets.
