Nigerian food delivery startup Chowdeck has taken another significant step in its West African expansion strategy with the appointment of Henry Whyte to lead its Ghana operations.
Whyte, who previously served as Senior Operations Manager at Bolt Ghana, will now oversee Chowdeck’s entry into the competitive Accra market. This strategic hire comes just ten months after Chowdeck brought on Umar Nas’ir, another former Bolt executive, to manage its Nigerian operations. Together, Whyte and Nas’ir bring over 13 years of experience in mobility and logistics, insights that are expected to be instrumental as Chowdeck looks to deepen its footprint in both food delivery and last-mile logistics.
Whyte began his career at Bolt as a customer support specialist in 2018, steadily rising through the ranks to operations manager in 2020 and then senior operations manager in 2021. His move to Chowdeck signals a targeted approach to challenging entrenched players like Bolt Food in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Nas’ir, who joined Chowdeck in July 2024, previously led Bolt Nigeria’s operations across more than 20 cities, according to his LinkedIn profile. His operational experience is viewed as critical to scaling Chowdeck’s delivery infrastructure and streamlining logistics in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive food delivery market.
Chowdeck’s broader ambitions stretch beyond just meals. The company operates a lean, asset-light last-mile logistics model—an approach that mirrors the logistics operations perfected by Bolt in both Ghana and Nigeria. With Whyte and Nas’ir now on board, the startup is well-positioned to refine and scale its model across multiple markets.
This is not the first time Chowdeck has recruited talent from competitors. Michael Toyinbo, who currently leads expansion efforts at the company, joined in 2023 from Jumia Nigeria, where he was responsible for planning and performance optimization.
While Chowdeck has yet to issue an official statement regarding Whyte’s hire, the company’s steady acquisition of industry talent underscores a clear intent: to build a seasoned team capable of driving aggressive growth and navigating operational complexities in West Africa’s competitive logistics and delivery landscape.
