Chowdeck Eyes Expansion into South Africa, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire

Chowdeck, a fast-growing food delivery platform from Nigeria, is considering expanding its services to South Africa, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire. These markets, known for their thriving food delivery sectors, present promising opportunities for the company to grow its footprint.Speaking at an industry event, Kennedy Offor, the company’s sales lead, shared, “We are exploring options, and these countries stand out due to their mature markets, particularly South Africa.”

Growing Competition in New Markets

The food delivery landscape in South Africa, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire is competitive, with established players like Mr D Food, Uber Eats, Glovo, and Bolt Food already active in these regions. For Chowdeck, entering these markets will mean competing with these well-entrenched platforms.Currently, Chowdeck handles around 40,000 daily deliveries, with Lagos State accounting for 70% of its orders. The platform recently reached a significant milestone of one million registered users, reflecting its strong position in its home market.

Expanding Services and Partnerships

Beyond food delivery, Chowdeck has integrated other services into its app, including grocery and medicine delivery, advertising, and last-mile logistics. These additional offerings could serve as a key differentiator in the new markets. Before going international, the company is focusing on strengthening its operations within Nigeria. This includes increasing its restaurant network and helping existing partners expand to high-demand areas. “By supporting restaurants in opening new outlets closer to high-order locations, we ensure faster deliveries and better affordability for customers,” Offor explained. One of Chowdeck’s notable partnerships is with Chicken Republic, a quick-service restaurant chain with nearly 100 outlets. This collaboration, which includes launching new products and expanding to new states, underscores the company’s emphasis on mutual growth with its restaurant partners.

A Strategy for Sustainable Growth

Chowdeck’s approach emphasizes creating a win-win relationship with restaurant partners. This includes leveraging data insights to help restaurants optimize their operations and enhance customer satisfaction.“We work closely with restaurants to identify areas for growth, whether through delivery optimization or data-driven insights on customer behavior,” Offor said.As Chowdeck prepares for its potential international expansion, its collaborative and data-centric strategy could help it navigate the challenges of entering new markets. With a clear focus on partnerships and customer satisfaction, the company appears well-positioned for success in its next chapter of growth.
