Co-Creation Hub (CC Hub), a leading innovation center for technology startups in Nigeria, has announced a new initiative to support emerging tech businesses in Edo State. The program, which offers a total of $700,000 in grants, is designed to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in the state’s growing tech ecosystem.
The grant application process was officially launched on January 12, 2024, and CC Hub is inviting tech startups from Edo State to apply. The initiative will see 50 startups selected for funding, with 30 startups receiving $10,000 each, while 20 others will receive $20,000 each, collectively amounting to the $700,000 investment in the local tech scene.
This initiative is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and is a testament to CC Hub’s commitment to nurturing technology-driven entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The program aims to create opportunities for startups, particularly those in Edo State, to scale their businesses, foster innovation, and integrate more deeply into the national and global tech economy.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister for Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized the significance of two major components of the grant program. The first, The Innovation Challenge Programme, is designed to encourage the participation of startups led by women or teams that include female founders. The second, The Inclusion-Focused Support Programme, aims to provide financial backing to any promising tech startup with innovative ideas that show potential for growth and success.
The grant aligns with the Edo State government’s broader strategy to foster the growth of its tech sector, increase local employment, and boost economic prosperity. By offering tax incentives, establishing a dedicated tech park, and creating an ecosystem conducive to innovation, the state is positioning itself as an attractive destination for both tech startups and established companies.
This $700,000 investment represents a crucial step in developing Edo State’s reputation as a thriving hub for technological advancements. It will not only support local startups but also create more job opportunities, improve the state’s infrastructure, and contribute to a better quality of life for its residents.
