Edo IRS Aims To Generate More Than ₦10 billion In Monthly Revenue

The Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Oladele Bankole-Balogun, has pledged to transform the state’s revenue collection system, with an ambitious short-term goal of generating over ₦10 billion monthly.

Bankole-Balogun highlighted that the previous administration achieved an average monthly revenue of ₦6.4 billion, attaining a summit of ₦7.8 billion in January 2024. However, he is confident that new reforms will significantly boost revenue generation.

“We are focused on system modernization, closing loopholes, and eliminating manual revenue collection,” he stated.

Bankole-Balogun emphasized that outdated methods, such as using tax officers to pursue citizens with canes, will be completely abolished.

He also revealed that Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the introduction of advanced technologies to streamline revenue processes, reduce inefficiencies, and maximize income.

“Our immediate goal is ₦10 billion monthly, and in the long term, we aim to surpass ₦12 billion,” Bankole-Balogun added.

According to Bankole-Balogun, these reforms align with the governor’s vision for a more efficient revenue system that will provide increased resources for Edo State’s development.
