Edo Refinery Receives First Shipment of 15,000 Barrels of Crude from Oza Oil Field in 2024

In 2024, the Edo Refinery has received its first delivery of 15,000 barrels of crude oil for processing from the Oza Oil Field, which is operated by Decklar Resources Inc. in partnership with Millenium Oil & Gas Company Limited.

Sanmi Famuyide, the CEO of Decklar Resources, confirmed the shipment and stated that the company has been consistently injecting crude oil into the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) for transport to the Bonny Export Terminal, where the oil is exported. This development marks a significant achievement as the refinery, established by Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited (ERPC), continues its expansion. The refinery, initially built with a 6,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity, is undergoing expansion to 21,000 bpd.

The Edo Refinery is designed to produce 500,000 liters of diesel, 300,000 liters of naphtha, and 200,000 liters of low-pour fuel oil from its crude oil feedstock. Famuyide expressed satisfaction with the successful export of the first batch of crude oil from the Oza Oil Field, transported through the TNP and subsequently delivered to the Bonny Export Terminal. He also highlighted that crude oil is still being trucked to local customers in Edo State, further cementing the refinery’s role in regional energy supply.

He added that the ongoing operation of the TNP connection has facilitated continuous crude oil deliveries to both the export market and the local refinery. This steady stream of crude oil has enabled Decklar Resources and Millenium Oil & Gas to generate consistent revenue, strengthening the financial position of the companies and enabling further development activities, including re-entry and drilling operations.

Additionally, Famuyide noted that approximately 8,000 barrels of crude oil previously delivered to the Forcados export terminal are set to be nominated for export in the coming weeks, with sales expected shortly thereafter. He confirmed that the crude oil produced at the Oza Oil Field is sold to Shell Western Supply and Trading Limited.

Crude oil production from the Oza Oil Field is injected into the TNP through the transfer pumping station located at the field, after being transported a short distance by truck from the Oza-1 and Oza-4 wells. The first export cargo of 15,000 barrels was scheduled for loading on February 7, 2024, with expected sales proceeds by the end of March. Decklar and Millenium are also anticipating a second export nomination notice from Shell for another 15,000 barrels of crude oil, which is currently stored at the Bonny Export Terminal.
