Etasko Central Marks International Widows’ Day with Empowerment Event

On Friday, Mrs. Josephine Obomighie, the wife of the Chairman of Etasko Central Local Government Area, hosted a special gathering to honor International Widows’ Day. The event, held in Etasko Central LGA, brought together widows from the community to provide them with support, encouragement, and a sense of solidarity.

Key attendees included Mr. Raphael Eshemokha (Head of the Social Department), Mr. Igein Emmanuel, Hon. Veronica Ogbolu, Dr. Godwin Ogamune, and Mrs. Oba Augusta, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Health (MAH), among others. The meeting was a platform for collective reflection and strengthening community ties.

During her address, Mrs. Obomighie offered uplifting words to the widows, emphasizing resilience and faith. She spoke about the unpredictable nature of life, noting that it is a journey filled with both victories and challenges. Encouraging the widows to remain steadfast in their faith, she assured them of divine guidance and care in their lives.

Hon. Christabel Omoh-Ekun, the Edo State Commissioner for Social and Gender, attended the event and praised Mrs. Obomighie for her dedication to supporting widows in Etasko Central. She commended the initiative, describing it as a heartfelt gesture of love and solidarity. During her remarks, Hon. Omoh-Ekun urged the widows to bring any concerns directly to the office of the Chairperson of Etasko Central LGA, ensuring that their voices would be heard and their needs promptly addressed.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Obomighie highlighted the importance of empowering widows and giving them a platform to voice their concerns. She encouraged them to actively engage with her office, pledging to work towards meeting their needs effectively. “Widows must know they are not alone,” she said.

The gathering also featured a message of resilience from Hon. Etokhana Thaddeus, whose words inspired hope and determination among the attendees. He encouraged the widows to remain strong in the face of adversity, emphasizing the collective power of the community to support one another.

The event concluded with a free medical screening and the administration of medications for all attendees. This health initiative underscored the community’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of widows while fostering their well-being.
