The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has unveiled the NEXT GEN RESCO Programme, aimed at preparing the next generation of leaders in the renewable energy sector. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and securing the future of the clean energy industry.
The program is a collaborative effort between the REA, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), and the Ecological Innovation Empowerment Initiative (EIEI). It is designed to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector by equipping young leaders with the expertise necessary to drive sustainable growth in the industry.
This 12-month-long program is now open for applications, targeting young Nigerians who are passionate about renewable energy. Sixty successful applicants will receive hands-on training, mentorship from industry experts, and the chance to collaborate with key stakeholders in the energy sector.
The program offers comprehensive training on renewable energy systems and leadership development, practical experience with leading companies in the industry, networking opportunities with industry leaders and professionals and internships to address real-world challenges in the renewable energy sector.
Over the past eight months, the REA has played a crucial role in Nigeria’s clean energy revolution by implementing and scaling renewable energy projects nationwide. Through its Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) model, the REA is fostering a private sector-driven ecosystem that emphasizes technical expertise, governance, and innovative service delivery. The NEXT GEN RESCO Program builds on this foundation by ensuring the sector remains equipped with skilled professionals capable of sustaining innovation and growth. Graduates of the program will be well-positioned to secure roles within private sector companies, leveraging their newly acquired skills to optimize renewable energy services across Nigeria.
The program emphasizes inclusivity, with specific eligibility criteria designed to ensure equal opportunities. They are open to graduates with a minimum CGPA of 3.5, candidates with a maximum of two years post-graduation experience are eligible, strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required and female applicants and NYSC members serving in Abuja are strongly encouraged to apply.
By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, the NEXT GEN RESCO Programme aims to build a workforce that reflects Nigeria’s dynamic and evolving energy landscape.
