Konga Appoints Shola Adekoya as New CEO Following Sim Shagaya’s Transition

Shola Adekoya has officially taken over as CEO of Konga, Nigeria’s leading e-commerce platform. The announcement follows his interim leadership after founder Sim Shagaya stepped down in January 2016 to assume the role of Chairman of the Board.

Adekoya brings over 17 years of extensive experience in business and management across sectors such as finance, telecommunications, logistics, retail, and transportation in both Europe and Africa. He first joined Konga in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and later became Chief Operating Officer (COO), where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s growth trajectory and customer-centric strategies.

As CEO, Adekoya will oversee Konga’s operations and collaborate with the board to maintain the company’s leading position in Nigeria’s e-commerce landscape. He is also tasked with exploring new business opportunities and steering the company toward leveraging technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, including advancements in the Internet of Things (IoT) to transform consumer behavior and enhance the shopping experience.

Reflecting on his appointment, Adekoya said, “I look forward to advancing innovative consumer solutions at Konga. We are committed to delivering exceptional experiences for our customers and solving Africa’s challenges through technology. Our overarching business goal is to be the engine of trade and commerce in Africa, contributing significantly to economic development and reshaping how trade is conducted across the continent.

“Before joining Konga, Adekoya held leadership roles at various organizations, including Etisalat Nigeria, where he was responsible for financial planning and budgeting. He also worked internationally with firms such as Vodafone Group, where he managed cross-country technology integration across eight European countries, optimizing operations and developing data-driven revenue streams.

With this leadership transition, Konga is set to reinforce its position as a major player in the African e-commerce sector, focusing on innovation and customer satisfaction to drive its next phase of growth.
