MultiChoice Doubles Down on Streaming with Showmax 2.0

MultiChoice, the leading media and entertainment company in Africa, is gearing up to launch Showmax 2.0, a revamped version of its streaming platform. This ambitious move is part of the company’s strategy to capitalize on the growing demand for streaming services across the continent.

Showmax 2.0 promises a wealth of original African content, including 1,300 hours of new programming. The platform will also feature the continent’s first standalone Premier League mobile streaming plan, catering to the growing popularity of football in Africa.

To fuel this expansion, MultiChoice has made significant investments in Showmax 2.0, including withholding dividends to shareholders and allocating an additional R500 million for the relaunch. The company aims to achieve ambitious subscriber growth targets, aiming to reach 50 million subscribers within the next five years.

While Showmax has made significant strides, it still faces challenges. The platform has yet to achieve profitability, and its success will depend on its ability to attract and retain subscribers while managing costs effectively.

As the African streaming market continues to evolve, Showmax 2.0 is positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of entertainment on the continent.
