Niger State and Federal Government Team Up for Major Food Production Boost

In a significant move to enhance food security in Nigeria, the Niger State government and the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) have joined forces. They recently signed a N5 billion agreement to support large-scale rice and maize production across 4,000 hectares of land in the state.

This ambitious project, co-funded by both the state and the federal government, aims to produce over 20,000 tons of food, create jobs for thousands of farmers, and improve the livelihoods of an estimated 40,000 people.

The NADF Executive Secretary, Muhammed Abu Ibrahim, expressed his enthusiasm for this landmark partnership, emphasizing its crucial role in boosting agricultural production and achieving food security for Nigerians.

Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of self-reliance in food production. He highlighted that the state possesses abundant resources, including fertile land and water bodies, which must be utilized effectively to achieve food security.

This partnership builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year, paving the way for a significant step towards achieving food security and self-sufficiency in Nigeria.
