Providus Bank Partners With EDC To Transform Nigeria’s SME Landscape

ProvidusBank, in collaboration with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC), has introduced the fifth unit of its flagship initiative, the ProvidusBank SME Programme, emphasizing its commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Nigeria. The launch coincides with the bank’s fifth anniversary, marking a significant milestone in fostering SME growth nationwide. The Head of SME Strategy at ProvidusBank, Damilola Feyide, shared that over 300 SME owners have benefited from the program since its inception in 2020. This year, the initiative is expanding beyond Lagos to Abuja, reflecting the bank’s ambition to reach more entrepreneurs and empower businesses in diverse regions.

Feyide described the programme as the cornerstone of ProvidusBank’s SME-focused initiatives, serving as a foundation for subsequent projects aimed at small businesses. “This is a day of celebration for us as a bank. It’s not just about celebrating but also about recommitting ourselves to the work we’re doing in the SME space. As we mark five years, we’re launching the ProvidusBank SME Programme in Lagos and Abuja, with hopes of continued growth,” Feyide said. She also expressed gratitude to EDC for its partnership in providing essential training for SMEs, emphasizing the critical role small businesses play in driving Nigeria’s economic development.

Nnenna Ugwu, a member of EDC’s Board of Directors, commended ProvidusBank for its unwavering support of entrepreneurs through the SME programme. “This is the fifth iteration of the ProvidusBank SME Programme, and we’re deeply grateful to ProvidusBank for their commitment to building the SME sector. Their support has been invaluable,” Ugwu remarked. She encouraged SME owners to uphold integrity in their business dealings, noting that ethical practices are vital for long-term success.

Participants of the programme shared testimonials about the transformative impact it has had on their businesses. The Managing Director/CEO of Onebrick Investment Limited, Bayonle Lawal, recounted his initial skepticism about the programme. However, after participating in the first few weeks, he was impressed by the insights gained and immediately began implementing them in his business operations.
