PTAD – Pensioners To Receive ₦32,000 Raise After 2025 Budget Approval

PTAD – Pensioners To Receive ₦32,000 Raise After 2025 Budget Approval

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has assured pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) that the recently approved N32,000 pension increment will be implemented once the 2025 budgetary allocations are released.

In a statement signed by Olugbenga Ajayi, PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya clarified that the January 2025 pension payments did not reflect the increase due to pending budgetary approvals. However, she emphasized that PTAD is actively coordinating with relevant government agencies to ensure swift implementation and payment of arrears once funds become available.

Odunaiya highlighted PTAD’s strategic fund management, which has facilitated the payment of outstanding arrears to pensioners in various sectors.

The Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) Pensioners received four months of arrears (August–November 2024) and the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD), Police Pension Department (PPD), and the University Sector of the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) received five months of arrears (August–December 2024).

She further noted that PTAD had already cleared arrears from the previous 20% and 28% pension increments for all eligible pensioners.

Speaking at the National Executive Meeting of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in December, Odunaiya reassured retirees that PTAD is finalizing arrangements to disburse the accrued arrears from the new pension increment. She disclosed that once implemented, the N32,000 increment will raise PTAD’s monthly payroll to N5.3 billion and its annual payroll to N63.6 billion.

All outstanding arrears related to the pension increase will be cleared as soon as the necessary funds are allocated.

Additionally, she confirmed that PTAD has already settled eight months of arrears from the previous 20% and 28% pension increases for pensioners under the Police Pension Department and the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Departments.

She also confirmed that the outstanding arrears for pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department are currently being processed and are expected to be paid before the end of the month as well as the five months of arrears for eligible pensioners in the university sector.

PTAD has urged pensioners to remain patient, mentioning once more its commitment to prioritizing their welfare and ensuring that all entitlements are paid as soon as budgetary allocations are finalized.
