At an event themed “Navigating the Future of Compliance: Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Regulatory Updates for 2025,” key stakeholders, including regulators, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), business leaders, and industry experts, convened to discuss challenges and innovations in the cybersecurity and compliance landscape. The event was anchored by Oluseye Soyode-Johnson, head of strategic partnerships and innovation at Bvndle, and featured opening remarks from Valerie Azubuike, Chief Operations Officer at Smartcomply.
Azubuike emphasized the urgency of addressing sophisticated cybercrimes and global data breaches, urging stakeholders to foster a culture of trust, accountability, and proactive compliance. She stated, “The digital age has unlocked tremendous innovation and growth opportunities but has also introduced significant challenges. As we navigate 2025, we must adapt to an evolving security landscape and remain ahead of emerging trends.” Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), highlighted the dual impact of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and IoT. While these technologies drive efficiency and innovation, they also raise privacy concerns. Olatunji called for huge cybersecurity measures, data protection practices, and adherence to regulatory frameworks to maintain trust and ensure sustainable growth.
Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Commissioner of Police and Director of the Nigeria Police Force-National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC), emphasized the role of law enforcement in addressing the rising prevalence of cybercrimes. He cited the proliferation of technology and insufficient awareness as contributing factors and encouraged collaboration between organizations and law enforcement agencies to combat these threats. A panel discussion featuring experts like Adedoyin Ademola (CBN), Mohammed Yahaya (NITDA), and Feyijimi Adewole (Coronation Merchant Bank), among others, explored strategies for compliance in a rapidly evolving landscape. Key takeaways included; embedding cybersecurity education in organizational processes, staying informed about legal and regulatory changes, adopting emerging technologies for threat detection and response, building a culture of responsibility and accountability to foster trust as well as strengthening collaboration between internal teams and external stakeholders.
The event concluded with Smartcomply presenting awards to panelists for their significant contributions to advancing the cybersecurity and compliance sectors.
