Thousands Of Nigerians In The U.S. Face Deportation As Trump Tightens Immigration Laws

Approximately 3,690 Nigerians living in the United States could soon be deported as President Donald Trump intensifies his crackdown on illegal immigration.

A recent report from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reveals that as of November 24, 2024, more than 1.4 million undocumented non-citizens have received deportation orders. Mexico tops the list with 252,044 individuals facing removal, followed by El Salvador with 203,822.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency responsible for border security and immigration enforcement, has already begun taking action. Last Thursday, authorities arrested hundreds of undocumented migrants and initiated deportations using military aircraft. With the program now in full swing, African immigrants, including Nigerians, may be next in line for removal.

The policy shift has raised concerns among undocumented Nigerians, many of whom fear imminent deportation following the latest enforcement measures.

On his first day in office as the 47th President of the United States, Trump signed several executive orders tightening immigration regulations. Among these was a directive to end automatic birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants, signaling a broader effort to reshape U.S. immigration policy.

With enforcement increasing, thousands of Nigerians and other immigrants without legal status could soon be affected, adding to growing anxieties within immigrant communities.
