World Innovation League Receives $1.2 Million to Empower Black Tech Talent

World Innovation League (WIL), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Black individuals in the tech sector, has secured $1.2 million in funding from Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster. This significant investment will enable WIL to expand its programs and provide crucial training and mentorship opportunities to 500 Black individuals across Africa and Canada.

Founded by Uchi Uchibeke, the founder of Nigerian fintech company Chimoney, WIL has evolved from a successful hackathon series – NaijaHacks – into a leading platform for fostering tech talent within the Black community. Recognizing the underrepresentation of Black individuals in the tech sector, WIL aims to address this critical gap by providing access to high-quality training, mentorship, and valuable work experience opportunities.

“This funding will play a crucial role in our mission to empower Black individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the rapidly evolving tech industry,” said Uchi Uchibeke, founder of WIL. “By providing access to cutting-edge training programs and connecting participants with leading industry professionals, we can create a more inclusive and equitable tech ecosystem.”

The investment from Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster underscores the growing importance of diversity and inclusion in the tech sector. By supporting initiatives like WIL, Canada is taking a significant step towards creating a more equitable and representative tech workforce.
